    When to vaccinate puppies

To protect dogs against certain diseases, it is vital that all puppies complete a course of vaccinations at an early age. The current guidelines from the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (2010) recommend that pups have 3 core vaccinations against distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus, all of which can be deadly to puppies and adult dogs.

Tala
Hi my name is Tala, I am 2 years old and I have just passed my Canine Good Citizen Test. I am a very adventurous dog: - my mom says that I should have been born a cat with nine lives, as I get myself into a lot of tricky situations which many other dogs would not have survived. I have eaten a blue bottle which caused my throat to swell shut and I have managed to get into a very small space and chew through an electrical cable to name just a few.
The biggest scare that I gave my folks was when I fell into the pool and could not get out. Lucky for me my sister, Mika, started barking like crazy and our neighbour looked over the wall to see what was going on. He pulled me out of the pool and pumped the water out of my lungs. Since then I have not been fond of water at all!

When I was about 4 months old, I started having difficulties standing up from the seated position. My mom and dad took me to the vet for some x-rays and they found out that I had hip dysplasia in both of my hips. My left hip was not as bad as my right one, and they were able to do a procedure on it called a TPO. They cut my hip socket into 3 pieces and joined them with plates to form a proper socket. Unfortunately I was not allowed to come to class during my recovery period of 8 weeks.
The vet told mom and dad that they should wait until I was over 1 year-old before they took me in for the next op, which is a total hip replacement on my right hip. In the meantime to help me develop muscles in my back legs and postpone the operation, I have been going to pet hydrotherapy. I go to a lovely lady called Renee. She is great! As you can imagine, after my near drowning experience any water was a big issue in my life, but Renee, my mom and my dad worked very patiently with me and I now swim for 12 mins in Renee’s heated pool without any panic. They are all very proud of me, and my back leg muscles have developed beautifully.
I love working in class, I can heel much better than my big sister Mika and my stays are now something of an art! I am not sure what mom is going to do now that I have been promoted up to the advanced class, because this means that she will have two dogs in one class!
