Mini Mentorship
Are you a dog training or behaviour student looking for more practical experience of what it is like to run a dog training school? This is the course for you! We are offering a unique opportunity to observe our training classes (from puppy to advanced level), shadow our trainers and pick our brains after classes.
Taryn Blyth and Inge Buchner are both CAPBT and ICAN accredited behaviourists and trainers with a combined 30 years’ experience in the field. Kommetjie Canine College is celebrating 10 years of educating dog owners and helping them to strengthen the bond they have with their canine companions, through science-based positive reinforcement training methods. During this course, you will have the opportunity to observe all levels of training at Kommetjie Canine College and to discuss and ask questions to help build your knowledge of what is required to instruct a successful dog training class.
As a COAPE tutor and lecturer, Taryn has experience working with students and is aware of the challenges of turning theoretical knowledge into practical ideas of how to actually work with dogs and their owners. While many students have a great academic knowledge, it can be difficult to apply this in real life situations. This is an opportunity to see the theory of what you are learning in action. You will be given worksheets to assist you in thinking about what you are observing and to provide topics for discussion during question and feedback time.
We have deliberately run the course over two Saturdays, so that you will have a chance to consider what you have learned the first week and use this experience to advance your observation skills the second time around.
The course runs over two Saturdays, 30th March and 6th April, from 8am – 2pm:
8-8:30 Briefing for the day
8:30 – 11:30 observation of Puppy, Intermediate and Advanced Classes
11:30 – 12:00 Break (please bring a snack to keep yourself going!)
12:00 – 2:00 Discussion, question time and feedback
Cost R1800
Booking closes 23rd March
